The Managing Safely and Working Safely courses are based on :

Identification and achievement of desired workplace behaviour
Competence-based training
Formal assessment of skills as well as under-pinning knowledge
Best practice rather than legislation.

 

Managing Safely 4/5 day’s course.

Safety management systems, role of the risk assessment and how safety management links with other aspects of management, legal requirements and the social environment

Safe systems of work showing need for formal procedures in order to identify all the hazards and assess the risks.

Health and Safety training role of safety supervisors and other members of the management team including taking action on and giving advice about potential problems.

Re-active monitoring, including which incidents have to be reported, checking that reports are made, recording reported incidents, conducting investigations, recording results and analysing records

Risk assessment and risk control, including making an inventory of sources of hazards, identifying hazards associated with each source, rating risks, selecting workplace precautions and recording results of risk assessments and reviews.

Safety policy, organisation and conducting a management review of the safety management system and preparing for a health and safety audit

Identifying relevant legislation and obtaining advice on compliance

Managing the sources of hazards addressed in Working safely

 

Working Safely 2-day course.

Trains workers to ensure that their actions contribute to health and safety in the workplace and that individual responsibilities are clearly understood.

Define safe working, identifying hazards and risks, selecting or seeking advice on workplace precautions and assisting managers to prepare risk assessments

Workplace precautions for sources of hazards: fire, manual handling, electricity, display screen equipment, chemicals and substances, work equipment, movement of people, poor housekeeping and noise.

Improving the organisation's safety performance, including reporting relevant accidents and incidents, monitoring work activities, commenting on health and safety policy, complying with requirements for control in safety management, co-ordinating with managers in safety activities, communicating on safety matters and identifying competencies required for safe working.


Safety for Senior Executives. One day course.

This aims to ensure that safety and health is appreciated by people at the most senior levels. This course should enable top executives to review policy and strategies, and, where necessary, introduce changes to make their organisation operate more safely. The syllabus focuses on:


Health and safety as a main management function, emanating from the top and descending through management layers

The financial implications of accidents and ill health caused by working conditions

Current legislation, particularly the Health and safety at Work etc. Act and the Management of Health and Safety Regulations and other regulations relevant to the particular workplace

Penalties for offences related to health and safety legislation

Documentation and procedures to satisfy legislation

The root causes of accidents

Basic principles of risk assessment the need to appoint competent people to advise on the health and safety function.

Flexibility is a key factor; the 'Safety for Executives' syllabus can be adjusted to suit specific conditions of the delegates' industry.

These courses are carried out with the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health and attendees obtain the necessary certification.
